I want to thank you for another wonderful season at Atlantic View Hotel here in Dewey Beach, DE. This season has had many memorable moments and we are grateful we got to either share them or help create them with you. The weather was consistently good, the waters were warm, and everyone’s spirits were high even during the pandemic. Thanks to each of you, we had an incredible season!
New Kid on the Block
On March 2, 2020 I joined the Atlantic View team as the General Manager and was cautiously optimistic, but excited, about the journey that was ahead. While I was a new General Manager, I was not new to the hotel industry. Since I had worked in various facets of a hotel operation, I was ready to jump in and make this property my own.
The team members warmly welcomed me and so did many guests who have been staying with us year after year. This made me feel more confident and relieved. Teams get into a rhythm and a flow so it can be daunting when you are the new kid on the block.
It was my goal to learn how things had been done, analyze what was working, and implement changes to make the guest experience even better. As a first year GM it was not my goal to walk in the door and make major changes.
Then there was COVID
Never would I have imagined that COVID-19 would check itself in and stay the entire season. With that, we saw a two-month closure, only two weeks after we opened. It was crushing to have to cancel so many reservations. However, we utilized that time to plan a safe reopening for our team members and guests. June 1 arrived and it was finally time to welcome guests back to the hotel and YOU definitely showed up!
Although the season was inundated with travel restrictions from most of the surrounding states, quarantines, and capacity restrictions at bars and restaurants, you trusted us to be your safe haven in the midst of a global pandemic. We were very grateful for your trust and your business.
2020 was a very strong year despite the challenges we all faced. We were unsure if people were going to be willing to travel, but you were and we thank you. This is exactly why we spent time making sure we could continue to offer the amenities our guests have grown to love and expect.
Our to-go breakfast and happy hour proved to be a success. Beach chairs were still available for you to enjoy the beach without having to pack the extras on your own. We suspended stayover service, but most of you were accepting and appreciative of that.
Guest are Extended Family
Each of our guests become part of our extended family and we always want to make sure that family is well taken care of. While many of you put your vacations on hold this year, it allowed us to welcome many first-time guests. Some of which have already booked or expressed a desire to return next season. Several of you came back several times throughout the season because you were working from home anyway and many of you didn’t have to use precious vacation time.
Thanks for Referring Us
Many of you stayed and then recommended that your friends and family book a room and they did. We were full, or almost full, throughout the entire season and that is truly an amazing accomplishment at such a time as this.
Whether you are a returning guest or a first-time guest, THANK YOU for trusting us to keep you safe and help you relax at the beach!
Cause to Celebrate
We helped many of you celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. One couple got engaged while staying with us for the weekend. There were mother/daughter trips, girl trips, guy trips, solo trips, family trips, and couple’s getaways. I encouraged a teenage guest to try parasailing for the first time with her dad and she absolutely loved it. There are several stories I could tell but I’ll share them with you during your next stay. It was truly our joy and pleasure to host these special-occasion trips for you.
Looking Forward to 2021
What can you expect for the 2021 season? Breakfast will be revamped and we will be looking to offer more options. There will be a few added amenities for those of you staying in our oceanfront rooms. Coffee may be coming from a new vendor and I think the coffee lovers will appreciate that.
We are developing packages that will enhance your future stay even more. Our commitment to excellent customer service in a clean environment won’t change. If it does, it will be heightened to ensure the guest experience is the best it can be.
Thank you again for trusting us to be your home away from home, your refuge, your peaceful place, your sanctuary, your meeting spot, and your beach break this year. Your business and the countless wonderful reviews are appreciated.
It is our goal to ensure that every guest that walks through our doors is able to have an enjoyable, relaxing, and memorable stay. Your loyalty, support, and friendship has always been valued, but even more so in 2020.
I trust that each of you will have a great winter and holiday season! We will see you on March 11, 2021! Until then, please be safe and healthy.
Yours in Hospitality,
Jason D. Mathis-White
