At Atlantic View Hotel
When did you start working at Atlantic View hotel and what attracted you to the position?
TL: I began my career in the hospitality industry as a Front Desk Clerk in the summer of 2021 at the Beach View Hotel. Here I met many incredible people, including the General Manager, Jason Mathis who has been very supportive. Later in the season the manager requested if I could help at the Atlantic View Hotel in Dewey. So, I worked at the Atlantic View Hotel part time during the summer of 2021. I felt very welcomed at both hotels because of the wonderful staff and the guests.
What attracted me to the position of Front Desk Clerk was the atmosphere of working at the beach and having an opportunity to meet new people. This opportunity proved to be very rewarding because I have met many wonderful guests, but I get to work with an incredible staff. I have noticed that the staff – maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, front desk, office, and kitchen, are all dedicated to providing the best possible experience for every guest that comes to stay at the hotel. In rare moments, something may be overlooked, but we are more than willing to find a solution. This is where I see the dedication, each staff member wants to make the stay as wonderful as possible for every guest.
What has been your greatest success thus far in your career?
The greatest success that I have experienced in the hospitality industry is being offered this position of Assistant Manager of the Atlantic View Hotel. It is a great honor and feeling that the company, and our General Manager, believes in me for this position. It is a new journey for me and my future. I am excited to work with this amazing team, in the only beach front hotel with balconies in Dewey Beach, and contribute to the hotel’s overall success.
What is the toughest part of your job right now?
The most difficult part of the job presently are the emails, various documents and computer programs that need to be maintained daily. It has become easier everyday since I have been training and learning how the programs work, not only from the manager but also from the great staff at the Avenue Inn our sister hotel in Rehoboth. They are a remarkable group of people
What was your fondest memory of a customer?
I have many wonderful memories, but I have to say when a guest informs me that they have had a very enjoyable experience at the hotel – that really makes me happy. When a guest shares that their room was clean and well maintained because of our housekeeping and maintenance staff, I admire the staff for the extra effort. Other times a guest might comment on an enjoyable experience because of the wonderful food that our kitchen staff prepared, or the staff has been so friendly and accommodating. Hearing that the guest loved their stay for whatever reason is always a delight. The best is when a guest says they feel like they are home and have made new friends at our hotel. The greatest memory and compliment that I’ve received from someone who has stayed with us is when I was told, they consider me as a friend. Thank you to all our guest, it is a honor for me to meet each of you every visit.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to walk and take in the great outdoors when the weather is beautiful. Sometimes it is strolling on the beach listening to the sounds of the ocean. Other times it is a bike ride on the many trails that the area has to offer or enjoying the neighborhood and talking with my neighbors. I have grown very fond of living near the ocean since I moved to the area about 2 years ago.
What is one thing very few people know about you?
Very few people know that I grew up in a country setting where I tended to acres of land, with a garden, various animals and raised turkeys! “Yes, I said Turkeys 😊” The closest city was an hour away, so this is where I developed my love of the outdoors. When it is raining or cold outside, I enjoy doing projects inside my home, playing video games, crafting, or listening to music.
Who do you admire, or look up to, and why?
I admire and look up to my mother and father. My mother always seemed to have a very calm and relaxed approach to every situation, even when it was difficult. She always seemed to stay calm and handled everything logically. She worked very hard to maintain the home, a job, and she always had great advice when I would go to her with a problem. My father also worked very hard at his job, but I admire him most for teaching me so many things about fixing cars, running heavy machinery, home repairs, and how to fix various mechanical problems. They were both wonderful parents.
Thank you and Have a wonderful day!
